Dark Sword Miniatures 5th Anniv. Miniature Set
Original Artwork by Larry Elmore
Sculpted by Tom Meier
This miniature is now available in our Online Store
What does one do to honor the 5th Anniv. of their miniature company ? Well, I thought long and hard about it and I kept coming back to the fact that it would be alot of fun to immortalize my wife in miniature form (something to show the grandchildren someday y'know?) so I could take her to Cons and such (hehe...just kidding). Dennis Mize and I spoke of having Larry draw Melissa as a warrior-babe going back two years ago. The idea stuck and I later talked it over with Larry and we decided to include our two miniature schnauzers (who happen to both have large attitudes like they rule our home and the world). So we took pics when Larry and his wife were staying with us last fall and then put Larry to work on coming up with something dramatic and cool. We then handed the artwork off to Tom Meier for the sculpting part of the equation. Tom put in a great deal of effort translating the artwork into a miniature that made sense (2-D art does not always translate into a 3-D mini easily). Our families all went nuts over the artwork and cannot wait to have the miniature set. I hope you all feel the same way as this is something that I am very excited about.

We now have inked metal pics below for your viewing pleasure if you want to see the bare metal pics. I am such a HUGE fan of the Reaper Master Series paint line. Anne from Reaper showed me how to antique minis in 1 minute with their grey liner and a mix of water with their brush-on sealer. I love it!

Matt reversed the schnauzer colors. They were not happy about this and have filed a Schnauzer injunction to stop these pictures from being posted online. They failed as the injunction paperwork never made it to the mailbox...good thing they do not have the ability to open doors with their little paws...They are now talking about going on a Schnauzer strike. I do not know what this means as they live a pampered life and really have no responsibilities except to do their business outside...uh-oh...this could get ugly...

This is a great shot to show the detail and the capturing of the pose.

Another great shot to showcase all the detail Tom lavished on this mini.

Tom spent alot of time sculpting the face to get her just right.

Close-up pics of both the miniature schnauzers and a nice shot of the cut-up mini ready for master molding. The base will be finished off once he casts up her master to see were he needs to drill into the base. He will then add foliage and such.

FYI - We will be doing variant versions of the miniature schnauzers with armor on and such. We will cut Tom lose on having some fun with helmets, and torso armor for them. We will then release a "Schnauzer Attack Pack" with 6-10 pooches in it for those of you who would like a herd of Schnauzers on the battlefield.

Artwork Title - The Last Charge Of Melissa And Her Immortal Schnauzers
I came up with the title and just could not get away from it as it captures a defining moment in time. Do they win the day and live happily ever-after? Or do they fall in battle amid a blaze of glory? Who are they charging? An army? A single villain? Or are they charging in to drag my butt out of bed to go for a walk? So many options for great dioramas at Gen Con Indy 2008 after she has been out for a full year.
Hey, Is that a Dark Sword she is carrying?

An early Larry Elmore sketch of our 5th Anniv piece. FYI - This is what our schnauzers look like after their haircuts. We call them "Smooth Tubes" after they get their haircuts as their bodies look like little tube-sausages.
