Many thanks once again to Mr. Mengu Gungor for taking such fantastic pics. Plus we must once again take our hats off to Susan Wachowski and her entire crew for heading up such well run miniatures events. We all owe them a HUGE thanks!

Wow, Dark Sword Miniatures had another outstanding showing this year at the Gen Con Miniatures Awards.

It was a tough job the next morning to pick the Best In Show winner for Dark Sword Miniatures. But with the help of the Anne Foerster who happened to be at the judging table for the Reaper Awards, we ended up with the exact same order as the judges for the official Gen Con competition. It was sooooo close between Ali and Amy. But at the end of the day, Amy just had a better overall effect with her Demurrage diorama. We need some of the dudes out there to give these ladies a run for their money on the Dark Sword awards. Derek and Mengu need to throw down next year and give Amy, Anne, Marike, Ali and Rhonda a run for the prizes and of course fame. Lots of fame..

So who is going to win the 2007 Award for Best Dark Sword Mini?? We are only 11 short months away folks, so ya better get painting as 2006 will be another tough class to top indeed!

Myself, Marike, Amy and of course the man himself - Mr. Larry Elmore!
FYI - We were all looking in different directions as there were 4-5 different people snapping pics. The press, the tabloids, local news stations, CNN, documentry crews - it never really ends when you paint Dark Sword minis at competitions. The public cannot get enough of it really. Well, we have our 15 minutes every year. I wonder if anyone got a pic of us all looking in the same direction? Larry and I just felt like big pieces of man candy - being used as window dressing for these two dames. JUST KIDDING! We loved it...

Keith Parkinson was totally blown away last year after seeing what Marike did with the Good King Ploogak. I think he would have been equally blown away this year with what Amy did with the Demurrage piece. Keith always liked what Tom Meier did with the Demurrage piece. And to see what Amy did with Tom's sculpt would have made Keith very happy.

Her extra detail with the books and such is just too cool for words.

Yep - Amy has had her way with the Dark Sword Best in Show Award twice now. And the year she does not enter it - Marike did and took overall Gen Con Indy Best in Show with the good King Ploogak. Amy and I were talking World of Warcraft PVP tactics right here. She of course is a "WOW end-gamer" and I am just a simple newbie that plays with Dave Summers and his wife about 2-3 hours per week.

This was tough to judge as Ali really gave Amy a run for the overall Dark Sword Best in Show. Her wild take on the Close Combat Mage with the zombie she is summoning really turned some heads at the Con and we sold out of this piece at the booth because of what Ali did with this mini-diorama. Ali also does painting for Dark Sword on certain pieces. She is going to be a force to be reckoned with at next years Gen Con Indy. She vowed to take 1st next year. It was funny as Amy mentioned that there were a couple pieces from Dark Sword in the competition that were really nice and could present issues with her taking the Dark Sword Best In Show again. Once I got to the display cases, I quickly saw what she was talking about. Great work Ali...

Somehow Ali eluded the camera all weekend. We will get some pics of her next year! MUHAHAHAHA....

Rhonda did a stunning tribute piece to the late great Mr. Dennis Mize. This is now in my personal collection as well as the Ali piece. Amy held out and kept hers! DOH!!! Someday...

Nice close-up shot of the detail Rhonda put into this excellent Dennis Mize sculpt.

Rhonda Bender - 2006 Dark Sword 3rd Place Award Winner
Rhonda Bender and myself. We were talking board game stuff at the booth as we both dig board games as well as minis. Wait a minute....Stop the Press! Is that a Reaper shirt she is wearing?!?!?! Their product placement is everywhere! Note to self - Photoshop it out - Just kidding - we dig Reaper. Very cool people and very nice minis...Except Ron of course...And Anne I guess...Just what was Reaper thinking??? hehe...
