Resident Photographer - Mengu Gungor

Many thanks once again to Mr. Mengu Gungor for taking such fantastic pics. Plus we must once again take our hats off to Susan Wachowski and her entire crew for heading up such well run miniatures events. We all owe them a HUGE thanks!

Wow, Dark Sword Miniatures had another outstanding showing this year at the Gen Con Miniatures Awards. Rhonda Bender finally broke the death-grip that Amy and Marike had on the Dark Sword Manufacturer Award Best In Show Trophy this year. I am quite curious to see who throws their hats into the ring for 2008 and who will come out on top.

I was lucky enough to have the help of famed French miniature painter Jeremie Bonamant Teboul to judge this year. The toughest cut was the 5th to 6th place cut as a really excellent version of the female thief from Elmore Set # 9 by Erin was battling the Sea Dragon piece by Ali. We gave the edge to the Sea Dragon by Ali just by a hair. It was one of those cases where I wanted to give them both the award for 5th place.

So who is going to win the 2008 Award for Best Dark Sword Mini?? We are only 8 short months away folks, so ya better get painting as 2007 will be another tough class to top indeed!

2007 - Best In Show: Rhonda Bender, “Baiting the Trap”

This great mini-diorama took the 1st place Dark Sword Mfr. Award at Gen Con Indy 2007. It was painted up by Rhonda Bender and was stunning in person. She called it - Baiting the Trap. Yep, I would fall for that trap...I admit it...

2nd Place - Queen Ploogak - Painted by Alison Scheirman
This is the second year in a row that Ali has shown strong and taken 2nd place. She wants that Best In Show Trophy and I hope to see her get it one of these years. Will 2008 be her year?

3rd Place - Lowland Hunting Dragon - Painted by George Mickelson
This was a big year for George at the Gen Con Painting Competition. He had a couple of winning entries and punched his painting to the next level. He was very pleased.

4th Place
Painted by Amy Brehm

Amy Brehm - www.AmyPaintsminis.com
Amy had a big year purchasing her first house and getting it all whipped into shape for her to live in. She did not have the time she wanted to put into the competition this year but said next year she hopes to have a strong showing. Will she be able to add a third Dark Sword Best In Show trophy to her collection? We will see...

5th Place - Sea Dragon - Painted by Alison Scheirman

This is my official 6th place winner
Jeremie Bonamant Teboul and myself went back and forth on the 5th place winner as these two were so tight.
Painted by Erin Warfield from MN.
She is and up and coming painter who has only been at it for a couple years now.

A very cool diorama piece by Sonya Taulia

A very nice Elmore Set # 7 Female Mage by Adrienne Keith

Different Booth Pictures from during the show. We hauled the entire Dark Sword painted collection to Gen Con Indy.
As before, we shared a 20x20 island booth with Larry Elmore and Stephanie. So I have to set things up for a corner display. I am thinking I might do my own 10x20 booth in 2008 to make more room for people to hang out and chat and have room for some of our painters to come in and paint and answer questions. We will see...

Alison Scheirman - 2nd place and 5th place Dark Sword Mfr. Award Winner
We finally managed to photograph the elusive "Ali-Monster" at Gen Con this year. She was not to be captured on film in 2006, but 2007 was our year for finally getting a picture of her. I also took a couple pics of her with her trophies, but they turned out blurry. The joys of digital cameras...

The man himself - Mr. Matt Verzani was at Gen Con Indy this year with his wife and his daughter. He had never seen so many of his painted miniatures in one place before. I think his wife got a kick out of seeing a large chunk of his work in one place as well.

Painting Legends - Matt Verzani and Jeremie Bonamant Teboul (he is pumping up to look impressive next to Matt).

Hamming it up for the camera. I shrunk, Jeremie grew and Matt was our control group.

Myself, Tom Meier and Jeremie Bonamant Teboul hanging out and talking miniatures.

Monte Cook (D&D 3rd Edition Lead Designer) and I in the Dark Sword booth on the last day of the show (hence the hat on me). Monte is a big miniature guy and has a number of Dark Sword sets in his collection. This year he snapped up the Elmore Mountain Giant.

Marike and her main squeeze.

The meeting of the minds on a double-secret probation project for 2008
Whatever on earth would Mr. Larry Elmore, Mr. Tom Meier, Miss Marike Reimer and Mr. Jim Ludwig be discussing and planning ?!?!?
Well folks, you will just have to tune in sometime in 2008 to see what we came up with...

FYI - Tom had his eyes closed as he was telepathically communicating with his clones back at the sculpting studios who sculpt day and night under microscopes.
